Run & Ride

Hednesford Hednesford

Tuesday road rides leave from outside of the Hednesford shop at 6.30pm.
On Tuesdays we have two groups (steady and fast). The first group will normally average around 15 - 16mph and the second group around 17 - 20mph.
The course is about 15mile long, quite flat but includes a couple of drags.
We meet at the shop at 6.30pm or at the Bus Stop near pottle pool island at 6.45.

Sunday road rides leave from outside of the Lichfield shop at 9am.
Average speed of the ride is 16-17mph and makes use of some of the best cycling lanes in the area whilst still hitting the odd big climb! Average mileage is around 50 miles and as with all of our rides we'll be sure not to leave anyone behind! We don't have a cafe stop as such, instead we prefer to complete the ride and return to the shop where you can get a cuppa if you wish! Everyone is welcome and the only thing that we ask is that you're bike is in a suitable condition, you carry spares and you;re happy to ride at the pace of the group (no 'dropping the hammer' and thrashing off into the distance!).

Saturday trail runs leave from outside of the Hednesford shop at 8.30am
On saturdays we meet outside the store at 8.30am and take a steady run up to the Cannock Chase Parkrun. From there all runners are free to run the Parkrun at their own pace. We all re-group at the end and take a steady run back to the store. Total distence is around 5 miles

Wednesday road runs leave from outside of the Hednesford shop at 6.30pm.
Our mid-week run are varied in both pace and route. Unlike most runs we focus on interval / speed work. It's suitable for all abilities and as we do the training on short sections on Cannock Chase so nobody gets left behind.  As always, everyone is welcome!

Run & Ride Events would like to invite you along to help celebrate our 3rd Birthday. As we've done in the past this we will once again be organizing a Road Sportive. For our 2015 Summer event we have chosen to support Staffordshire Search and Rescue who do great work in the area.

Unlike many other events we donate all proceeds after costs to the charity meaning they benefit as much as possible and get to put the money to good use.

Our events are quite relaxed and social. We encourage new comers and established riders alike to come and have a go.

This non-competitive event will take riders through the local lanes around Cannock Chase taking in some of our favorite routes on Sunday 6th September 2015. The ride starts from outside the Run & Ride (Hednesford) shop and will head out following a fully signed course, finishing back at the store where drinks and cake will be provided.

Course Profile
The route will focus on taking in some of the roads we love to ride ourselves. Based mainly on back roads & small lanes where we love to get away from the traffic of the busy roads. Heading out over Cannock Chase the course will be fairly hilly to start before leveling out as it heads over towards the 30mile point. We've then included some of the more challenging hills in the area as recommended by local riders. Once you've completed these you'll head back towards HQ with the final climb bringing you over Cannock Chase to master.

70mile Route -

50mile Route -

PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF DATE TO JULY 5TH

The Winter Classic event has come and gone. On the day we had high winds, rain, hail, snow, lots of mud and big smiles from riders young and old.

The event sold out with some of the male categories selling out 2 months before the event so please consider this if you plan on entering.

Also following the Winter event we've had a few riders request that we split the "Fat Bike and Single Speed categoires which we have now done.

Anyway on with the event details

Held as before on the popular area of Cannock Chase the event will once again be focused more towards the newbie or fun rider. At Run and Ride we really want to support the grass routes of mountain biking.

So what has changed for 2015? Well nothing really. The format works!! With First Timers category has now gone and instead replaced with "Beginners" Please before you enter this category ask yourself is this the right race for you. If you are fit and like and have any inclination to chase Strava times then this is not the right category for you. The Fun class is the next category up for those who may of raced before but want to just enjoy it and not really worry about how quick they are. Enthusiast is for the guys who race a fair bit, spend al lot of time training and generally rip round. Not really a category for Elite riders.

Worth a mention is that we've kept with the new U8's category alongside the already popular U10's and U13's races. These have proved to be a massive success at every race we do. So much of a success that we simple can't time them well enough so we've had to reduce the entry size per race. If you have children who fit into this age group and enjoy riding their bike then we highly recommend you enter them.

We want to encourage more women to give racing a chance, therefore entry prices start at just £6.00!!!

The Singlespeed and Fat Bike categories are here once again for 2015.

Another question that kept coming up was are we going to offer National Ranking Points. We understand that for hardcore racers offering points was an attraction but goes away from what we want to achieve by putting on these races, ie affordable racing suitable for fun and newcomers. We still offer categories for those hardcore racers and the prizes are still great but ranking points are just not what the events are about

Category Breakdown

We want close competitive racing and therefore urge everybody to consider which category is best for them. There is no pride to be gained from entering a race that you are cleary too good for. Please please enter the race that suits your fitness level

Beginner - As the name sugests this race is for new comers, cycling beginners and first time racers. Your level of fitness will be average, racing for you will be about having ago, enjoying the experience rather than if you will win

Fun - For those who ride a couple of times a week and have a reasonable level of fitness. You enjoy riding but don't take your performance too serious. You'll of most likely raced a couple of times before but wouldn't of finished in the top 5 / 10 in a midlands events. If you have ridden one of our events before and finished in the top 10 in this category then it's time to move up.

Enthusiast - You are an avid rider and racer and will do a number of hours on the bike each week. Strava is your 2nd best freind and you are performance minded. Saying this you aren't at the peak of the sport If you ride towards the top level in Expert (Mids or National) or as an Elite then this isn't the event for you sorry.

Race Timing

Timing's are taken on the day, providing a professional service which includes making results available for everybody quickly after their race / overall event.

 The Course - Enter Here

As for the course, expect a real mountain bike course. What do we mean by that? Well plenty of nice techy, but fast flowing single track. and some lung busting climbs mixed up with a few fire road sections. As with all our events we try to create a few new sections with the backing from the Forestry Commission ready for the event. If you are a newcomer don't be put off by the "real mountain bike" talk. Our course are 100% ride able by all levels and we don't put anything too dangerous in the course, plus anywhere that has a difficult section in will have a 'chicken route' alternative. The course will be around 5 / 6km in length and take an average of 20mins (Top riders) 30mins (first timers) to complete. The course will be similar to one used for the Winter classic but small changes to make it different and interesting.

If you are nervous about the course then why not book a skills session with Chase Skills who will help you prepare for any technical aspects of the course.
