Let us first welcome you to Run & Ride, well our website anyway. We hope you notice that we’re not some big corporate giant but instead a very professional medium sized company based in Staffordshire right on Cannock Chase. The business is run by cycling, running, walking; well outdoor sports enthusiasts. We all have a true passion for the outdoor and we feel that this always transfers into how we operate the business. We don’t just talk shop we get out there and enjoy it and it's this that's so important when dealing with you the customer. You see because we have a genuine passion for the sports. We are able to offer knowledgeable and honest advice, not just what we’ve read in a booklet.

The brands we stock such as Scott, Cannondale, Whyte, Frog, Genesis, Garmin, OTE, Madison are in the store because we love their products. We've been out and tested them or we own products from them ourselves. Tried and tested and guess what if they fail we stop using them and we stop selling them!

Please have a look around the site. We hope you like it. You'll find products from a number of big brands but you'll also find products from a few smaller lesser known ones too such as Spokesman clothing, Accelerade nutrition and Ginger & French gifts and cards. You’ll also notice we've tried to make the experience as good and simple as possible therefore we've included "click and collect", online finance option so you can do all the paperwork from your own home. We also have a fantastic customer rewards program to support those who support us.

Finally we'd like to touch on our pricing policy. We understand that we need to be competitive therefore we offer a price match policy on hundreds of items. It's really simple, just click on the option on the page and send us the details. Couldn't be easier.

Well we'll leave it there for now. Once again thank you for visiting our store and we hope you enjoy your experience. And please remember if you have any questions then feel free to ask.

The Summer Classic is always a massive event. Fantastic trails, great weather and a fun sociable crowd. Mountain Bike Racing As It Should Be

Following on form the Winter Classic in February, which was a sell out event, we move onto the Summer Classic which promises more of the same but hopefully with better weather.

With racing categories for every age from 4 years to 70 years old we offer a great mountain bike experience for the whole family to get involved in. A relaxed, friendly environment so you don#t have to worry if you#re new to the sport. We can offer you help and advise so you can ease your way into racing. For those that are experienced riders then we have the top two categories (Enthusiast And Elite) that attract some of the best riders in the UK. You'll notice we don#t follow the standard category system. If you are unsure about which race to enter then  we strongly recommend riders to read the descriptions before choosing which category to enter and pick one that suits your ability.

Following feedback sort from previous competitors, we've decided not join with British Cycling for National Ranking points. To run an event through British Cycling costs a considerable amount of money and we felt that this money could be better spent elsewhere. For starters it now means that the planned price increase for 2017 no longer needs to happen so everybody benefits. We've increased the price pot for the Elites (£600 Cash) so we can attract the best, plus without the constraints of BC rules competitors can now race in whichever category they wish regardless of age.

Finally… For those that have done the Winter Classic and the Dirty Dozen trail run, the Summer Classic event will be the 3rd race of the Cannock Adventure series. For more details on this please see www.runandride.co.uk where you can get a special discount for entering multiple

So with that’s the news…. Other than the above you will find the same fun, social and relaxed mountain bike event as we’ve always put on. We’ve still got the kids races, the courses are still designed for all, entry into the Women’s race is still subsidized and we’ve still got the Fat Bike / Singlespeed (sorry no electric bikes) category.

    Event Details

Held as before on the popular area of Cannock Chase the event will once again be focused more towards the newbie or fun rider. The Classic events have always been about grass routes of mountain biking. Riders from 3 years old to 70 years. People who ride everyday and those that have just started. Everybody with one thing in common and that’s a love for Mountain Biking.

The course is traditional mountain biking with everything from short and sharp climbs, single track descents and fire road blasts. We aim for a course which 100% ride-able therefore where we have a technical section we will also have an easy route for those who may be not quite so confident.

At the venue you’ll find camping facilities, fresh water, hard standing parking 100metres from the start and great view points for spectators. We’ll also have caterers and trade stands along.

Our race categories are designed to encourage close competitive racing regardless of what position you finish in. The breakdown of categories is as follows. Please read the descriptions. Its really important that you enter the RIGHT category for you. If you are new to racing then please start at the beginners category level. We get many riders that will enter the ~fun~ category not understanding just how quick many of the riders are and how difficult it can be to ride 3 laps of our course flat out.

Beginners - Please before you enter this category ask yourself is this the right race for you. If you are fit and like and have any inclination to chase Strava times then this is not the right category for you. As the name suggests this is for beginners, new riders or those that just know they aren’t super fit but like to have a go. Please note that the top 5 finishers from the Winter Classic will not be allowed to enter this category for this summer event

Fun - Next category up from beginners. This is the most popular category. It’s for those who may of raced before but want to just enjoy it and not really worry about how quick they are. You like to go fast but you don’t spend hours a week on the bike and don’t class yourself as “quick”. Please note that the top 5 finishers from the Winter Event will not be allowed to enter this category for the Summer event

Enthusiast - For the guys who race a fair bit, spend al lot of time training and generally rip round. Ideal for any Vets, Sport and quick Junior riders. Not a category for Elite or Expert riders.

Pro / Expert – Top level racing for the quickest guys around. Ideal for Elite, Expert and the very best Junior riders. This event will carry a premium prize fund - 1st £150 / 2nd £100 / 3rd £50 for both male and female events

Singlespeed / Fat Bike – once again we’re offering up a category for each

Worth a mention is that we've kept with the new U8's category alongside the already popular U10's and U13's races. The kids races have proved to be a massive success at every race we do. So much so we've had to reduce the entry capacity per race. If you have children who fit into this age group and enjoy riding their bike then we highly recommend you get them entered. These are very popular races and we can#t guarantee entry on the day will be available.

U8s course - Around a tree / grass area that is flat. The area is in full view of the start / finish line so they will be in full view at all times. We#re not against parents following / helping during the race if it helps the child enjoy the experience.

U10 / U13 Course – We've chosen to challenge the u10s and u13s so to better prepare them for the move up to riding a full adult course when the reach 14yrs and upwards. These guys and girls will race over a shortened version of the adult course that includes more technical aspects yet nothing too dangerous.

We want to encourage more women to give racing a chance; therefore we have made the decision to continue to subsidize (excluding Elite due to the increased prize fund) the entry fee for the women’s categories. Some may disagree with our decision to do this but we've seen a dramatic increase over the years so we're sticking with it.

    Race Timing

Timing's are taken on the day, providing a professional service which includes making results available for everybody quickly after their race / overall event.

We have a professional photographer onsite during to the day. Pictures will be available to purchase on the day or after the event

    The Course

As for the course, expect a real mountain bike course. What do we mean by that? Well plenty of nice techy, but fast flowing single track. and some lung busting climbs mixed up with a few fire road sections. As with all our events we try to create a few new sections with the backing from the Forestry Commission ready for the event. If you are a newcomer don't be put off by the "real mountain bike" talk. Our course are 100% ride able by all levels and we don't put anything too dangerous in the course, plus anywhere that has a difficult section in will have a 'chicken route' alternative. The course will be around 5 / 6km in length and take an average of 20mins (Top riders) 30mins (Beginners) to complete. The course will be similar to one used for last years Winter classic but with changes to make it different and interesting.

If you are nervous about the course then why not book a skills session with Chase Skills who will help you prepare for any technical aspects of the course.
